Nominations and Elections for St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Parish (Summerside) Inc.
This year we will be electing two new Lay Directors for our Board of Directors. The Lay Directors will sit on the Board of Directors for the parish and must attend an annual meeting of the Board and any additional meetings called as necessary. One Lay Director will serve as Treasurer and be given a seat on the Finance Committee while the other will serve as Secretary and be given a seat on the Pastoral Council. Lay Directors must be in full communion with the Roman Catholic Church, have attained the age of 25 years, and be a Registered Member of the Parish (as defined below). To be nominated you must receive the support signatures of 10 Registered Members of the parish who are in full communion with the Roman Catholic Church and who have attained the age of 18 years. Nomination forms are available at the back of the church.
A Registered Member of the parish is someone who: 1) lives within the boundaries of the Parish; or 2) has received, in the previous year, a tax receipt from the Parish; or 3) is registered with the Parish for the offertory collection either through collection envelopes, direct deposit or other means prior to January 17, 2015; or 4) is an immediate family member living in the same residence as someone who meets the previous three requirements.
Nominations for the position of Lay Director will be received until January 29th. Nominees will be announced at the Masses on January 31st – February 1st. If an election is necessary, it will happen February 14th and 15th at Mass.
Completed nomination forms can be submitted to the office and addressed to the Nomination Committee.

Children who will receive the Sacrament of First Communion … verification of baptism is required. Bring in a copy of your child’s baptism by February 27th. A parent update for these children on Sunday, Feb. 1st main hall, 11:30am during catechism. Parents/guardians are asked to be in the main hall by 11:30am; the children will still be attending Sunday catechism. For children being taught at home, they can attend the First Communion class;
Religious Education Committee … meeting will be Monday, January 26th, 7pm in the Boardroom.
St. Paul’s Catholic Women’s League News… January is membership month, fee $20. Place in the blue envelope and collection basket. New members are welcome/ needed so as to keep CWL vibrant. This is the year for a new executive. All current members are asked to discern letting their name stand for a position of a chairperson. There are younger members with talent who could be very effective in a leadership role. Our Lord tells us,”Do Not Be Afraid”.

The Marriage Preparation program … for St. Paul’s and surrounding parishes will be presented by Holy Family Ministries Wednesday evenings April 8th & 15th followed by an all day Saturday(lunch included) April 25 in the Main Hall at St. Paul’s Parish Center. All those planning marriage in 2015 are required to attend a Pre-Marriage Preparation program. The cost is $100.00 per couple. Diocesan Consultation In Preparation for the Synod on the Family: the Diocese has received directions/guidelines from the CCCB (Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops) for submitting input into the Synod on the Family. Please be advised that parishes, religious communities, and church organizations will be invited to submit their thoughts/ideas in accordance with an outline of questions. The process for this consultation will be highlighted at upcoming Zone meetings and at a special diocesan meeting (for religious & church organizations) convened in the next few weeks. It is important to note that comments have to be submitted to our Diocese by the end of February.

Your Generosity Helped in Haiti … after the earthquake 5 years ago, Dev. & Peace received 21 million dollars from Catholics across Canada. Provided food for 1.2 million, potable water, temporary shelters, hygiene kits, housing, reconstruction of 3 schools, experimental farm, agricultural tools, distribution of farm animals, seedlings, 38 tonnes of seeds (beans, corn, yam, etc). The Can. Catholic Organization for Dev. & Peace thanks all across Canada who showed such exceptional generosity toward the people of Haiti following the devastating earthquake.
