House Update … in the mid  90’s,  the parish was planning for a day when priests from the surrounding area would begin living in Summerside and we bought a large house to accommodate that plan. The plan, however, did not happen and left us with a house that was too large for our needs and too costly to maintain. To offset the costs, we rented a basement apartment, but the parish was not prepared for all of the responsibilities that go with owning a rental property and this arrangement has cost us hours of work unrelated to the purpose of our church. The Finance Committee has been discussing the matter for years and the options under consideration were presented publicly three times in the last couple of years. This summer we had a great opportunity to buy a house that is a much better fit for our real needs. The new house is smaller and will allow us to save money on operating costs. We purchased the house and have since sold the Granville Street property. This move will put us in a much better situation as we move forward with the list of maintenance and other projects related to our buildings.
