Pope Francis’ Encyclical on the Environment … The Church encourages honest, scientific debate. On many concrete questions, the Church has no reason to offer a definitive opinion; she knows that honest debate must be encouraged among experts, while respecting divergent views. The Church does not presume to settle scientific questions or to replace politics. But I am concerned to encourage an honest and open debate so that particular interests or ideologies will not prejudice the common good.

Religious Education …
More parents need to get involved in teaching, Grades 1,5, & 7. There are parents to help out … we require more to share teach alongside those already teaching. We may need to ask each parent to teach one lesson through the year and help you realize that teaching is not difficult. You teach your children something new every day, why not their faith?
Parents of Grades 1, 5 & 7 … Charlene Peters will be having a session for the parents to help you understand the new program. Once she has explained “how”, you will be empowered to take a role in teaching . Wed., October 28th, 6:30pm. I will need to give Charlene numbers, so please let me know by email that you will be attending.

New Statues … you may have noticed we have a couple of new statues in the church. St. Joseph came from the Rollo Bay church after it closed and was repainted. Besides being the foster-father of Jesus, St. Joseph is also the patron Saint of Canada. Next to him we have two saints who lived in Canada: St. Andre and St. Kateri (to come). Brother Andre (taken from Saint Joseph’s Oratory website): “At first assigned to be doorkeeper at Collège Notre-Dame, he was then named caretaker at that house of prayer which he shepherded into existence on Mount Royal. The religious brother welcomed thousands of distressed people or those who were looking for a ray of hope. He listened to them and recommended that they pray to Saint Joseph in whom he had full confidence. Any number of miraculous healings took place there and hearts turned toward God. Today, Saint Brother André continues to be an inspiration and a friend for women and men of any religious practice.” Saint Kateri (info CCCB website): Born in present day New York state, Saint Kateri fled to Quebec when, after her baptism, she met much hostility and threats because of her faith. “In Kahnawake, Kateri was known for her faith and holiness. She taught prayers to children, cared for the elderly and the sick, and would often attend mass at sunrise and sunset.” She has the distinction of being “the first native North American to be raised to the glory of the altars.” Her burial site is located at Saint Francis Xavier Mission in Kahnawake (Quebec). We thank the family who donated all three statues to the parish.
