Quotes from Pope Francis’ Encyclical “Laudato Si” Pope Francis on the Environment … Drinking water is a human right. One particularly serious problem is the quality of water available to the poor. Even as the quality of available water is constantly diminishing, in some places there is a growing tendency, despite its scarcity, to privatize this resource, turning it into a commodity subject to the laws of the market. Yet access to safe drinkable water is a basic/ universal human right, since it is essential to human survival and, as such, is a condition for the exercise of other human rights. Our world has a grave social debt towards the poor who lack access to drinking water, because they are denied the right to a life consistent with their inalienable dignity.
Finance Committee Election … Currently our Finance Committee consists of members elected by the pastor in consultation with the existing committee. This is to ensure we have people with the experience and expertise we need for our deliberations. We will continue to elect some of the committee’s membership in this manner, however, this year we will also elect 2 members to the Finance Committee through a general parish election. We will be accepting nominations for the election until October 18th at noon. These nominations can be passed into the parish office or placed in an envelope marked “Finance Committee Nomination” and dropped into the collection basket at Mass or slide under the Main Office door. If we have more than two nominations, the names will be published in the bulletin on the weekend of Oct 24-25th and the voting will take place following each Mass on the weekend of Oct 31 – Nov 1. For nominations, clearly indicate: 1) name and contact info of the person being nominated, 2) signatures of three parishioners not related to the nominee. Please note that the Committee currently meets on the last Thursday of the month when considering this ministry.
